The problem with Trump’s humiliation is that it will also be ours for a very long time! Our international relationships are in tatters, long time allies distance themselves, while he’s attempted repeatedly to align us with his favorite “tough guys” like Putin! How sad that the year we celebrate 250 years as a country we have been reduced to this!
Unmistakeable body language at the G-7 in Evian. Nobody wanted to talk to the nasty, demented old uncle wandering around by himself. Couldn't have been more obvious.
The constant claim, uttered by Trump and cronies, is that he is well-loved by the world. Sadly, the MAGA and not-very-bright contingent believes it. Despite proof that he lies, they still believe him.
The G7 members decided to "play nice" with Trump this week. While I understand the why of it, I wonder why they don't push back against the lies.
Unfortunately, the lingering effects of all this will bleed over into subsequent Administrations, causing decades of problems. We all know it takes far longer to gain trust than to lose it. I can only hope it doesn't impact the average American's ability to engage internationally through travel, business relations, and other forms of interaction.
I appreciate Miles' work pulling together Defiance, but it's in the Foreign Policy space that he really shines. It's his wheelhouse for sure.
I don't have his knowledge and insight, but it appears to me that our former allies have *already* decided to move on. I've been hearing a lot of wailing about how NATO is dead, but I have doubts. NATO itself may fold, as it is replaced by something else that essentially does the same thing, but without the US. Do I see the Finns just lying down and cowering before Russia? Germany? Nopity Nope Nope.
Trump has already left the US outside of the world, looking in. Our future is uncertain. Study Mandarin.
Gavin Newsom has the grit, personality, and savvy to run for President. Unfortunately, much of the country thinks CA is full of awfulness; and we do have problems. But what State doesn't? I am not a fan of the negatives associated with my adopted State, and I realize that the Faux News has declared open season on everything CA. So my question is, would it even be possible for Newsom to win in 2028? Aren't there others who don't have the CA baggage wrapped around their necks? I read recently that we shouldn't run someone we like, but someone who can be elected. That thought stayed with me.
I am a native born Californian, as much as I like and would support Gavin for President, there are other alternatives…Ossoff, Shapiro, Pritzker, Kelly all would also be excellent candidates!
It's too risky to even try. We've proven that we're too misogynistic and racist to vote for the more qualified candidate, I'm afraid we're also too Californistic too. I can see millions of Real 'Muricans thinking "He's smart and all, but dagnabbit, he's from Callyforny! Fox news says I gotta vote for the guy from the Midwest".
Of course Trump would rather deal with the world's strongmen. They don't challenge him, but instead flatter him. Because he is doing exactly what they want him to do -- destroy the US.
Trump is a living PSYCHOPATH & they r programed to never admit they have screwed up. The much bigger problem for American & the world is his CULT OF GOP SYCOPHANTS who follow him around like a toddler following their parents. "I will beat & ruff up anyone that defies my decisions. Obey me or feel my wrath. Thank you, Your PSYCHOPATH IN CHIEF"
Republicans in Congress who have enabled the vulgarity, venality, cruelty, corruption, and illegality of the Trump regime will forever wear their dishonor like a cape made from the carcass of a dead skunk. There is more backbone in a bowl of chicken noodle soup than there is in the entire leadership of what was once the Grand Old Party of Honest Abe Lincoln but is now the (lower case gop) gutless obsequious puppets of pathological liar Donald Trump.
When we heard that trump tore up the JPCOA we knew it would create problems BUT what we didn't know that tearing up that agreement plus re-electing the guy who tore it up would lead to the destruction of our country.
The fall of the US Empire brought to you by hubris & trump inc.!
Our VOTE may be our only hope. No matter how difficult 47's magaRs make casting a ballot, we need to find a way to have our voices heard. Thank you, Miles.
That showed everyone, then, how he was going to be. At this week's G7 he was definitely front and center - all alone. He's alienated our Allies, which isn't good for America.
Well said, Miles, as always. So much winning!!! Well, we are winning -- the race to the bottom. And so many of his cultists still aren't going to know what hit them in another year or two, when many of these sick "policies" really start hitting home. Buckle up! We are in for a rough ride.

Yes! That picture at the top of Miles' article was perfect.
From where I sit, Trump is the single greatest failure who has managed to get people to believe his lies and bullshit.

He was right about one thing, I'm sick of all the winning....
It looks like a series of Pyrric Victories to me: Tactical victories (sometimes) resulting in humiliating strategic defeat. Wash and repeat!

But give him credit, he’s made quite a career of it 🙄
*sigh*

Don't forget this shove in 2017 so he could be front and center for the NATO photo op https://www.ndtv.com/offbeat/awkward-donald-trump-shoves-montenegro-pm-for-photo-op-roasted-online-1704337
