Whether real or staged, a terrorist attack is exactly what I've been expecting since the first attack on Iran. There's no doubt Trump would welcome one. He's probably been wondering, "Where are those IRGC clowns anyway?" There couldn't be a better pretext for some patently unlawful stunt like attempting to cancel the November elections or strong-arming Secretaries of State to do so or when all else fails, demanding Mike "Patsy" Johnson refuse to seat Democrats.
I certainly wouldn't rule out Trump planing a staged attack in case a real one doesn't happen in time. He's had one dress rehearsal for summoning the mob. Now he can dangle pardons and payoffs from the 1776 Fund to help in recruiting the mooks.
What is especially horrifying is that Trump can issue orders that cost many billions of dollars and that take many thousands of lives while Republican leaders sit on their thumbs and watch the chaos unfold. There is more backbone in a bowl of chicken noodle soup than there is in the leadership of what was once the Grand Old Party of Honest Abe Lincoln.

If your assessment is correct, and I believe it is right on the mark, it will take years if not decades to repair the damage he has done and is still doing to the country. Maybe our great grand children will see it turn around. But that means another Trump type doesn’t take control the Trump has in controlling congressional Republicans.
The only bright spot at the moment is the 2026 primary season is now ending. So perhaps some non-MAGA Republicans will finally begin to stand on principle.

Actually, I wouldn't mind a resolution along the line of the Nixon resignation: the 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘰 of the criminal enterprise avoids jail but all the underlings get a felony conviction and some hard time. Rather than a pardon, however, I'd prefer a deferred prosecution agreement in which he agreed to leave the country and never return*. I'm sure Putin or one of his Arab buddies can offer suitable accomodations, perhaps in Sochi or Dubai.

We, the People, will fight back against authoritarianism here and abroad - hard. We saw it in Hungary. That is just the beginning. Trump, Putin, and the Epstein-billionaires have the $$$ to corrupt politics, but we have the ###s. And we have collective power as workers and consumers.
