Amy, as this crisis did not come upon us in a short time, I don't see how the resolution can come soon-- not for several years at least. That's one of those forks ahead of us. Do we stick with it, crossing the t's and dotting the i's, or do we "let someone else fix it"?
We won't resolve the issues in the midterms, and if we don't rebuild enough good structure under the next president, the overtly Nazi party will win in 2032.
Think Civil War-- 4 years of bloodshed, 12 years of federal occupation of the Confederacy afterwards, and that wasn't near enough, and what came roaring back after the Compromise of 1877 was full-on terrorism.
It won't be easy, quick or cheap for this country to reach a good future. And staying strong and brave and together is the correct thing to do.

Christie, I was appalled watching Trump in the first Republican primaries debate in 2015. I was convinced then that Trump was utterly unqualified to serve as President of the United States. Nothing I have seen in the past eleven years has caused me to change that assessment. In fact, I am even more convinced that Trump is spectacularly unqualified for the high position he holds.

I can't think of any position, however low, that Trump is qualified to hold. Can you? He is, always has been, a dangerously disordered man--well here's a position he's qualified for: a highly dangerous, Hitler-level psychopath.

Wonderful essay, but why did you use the words “left” and “right” in that way? At first it was a bit confusing, but then I realized it wasn’t an error. Some “scanners” might come to the wrong conclusion.
How about "downhill" "uphill" instead? The easy way or the hard way?
And PS Miles, it is DemocratIC. That's basic grammar. A Democrat is a 'pronoun,' a noun representing a person. Democratic is the adjective modifying the noun Party. Here endeth the lesson on English, a beautiful language.

I just posted the same sentiment to my two bootlicking Texas senators. Asking, for the umpteenth time: How much power and/or money is worth their complicity in ignoring, if not actively destroying the Constitution and obligation to America they swore an oath to defend.
Except for a notable few, the Reps and Senators turning a blind eye to the madness are no dummies, and know perfectly well just how illegal, unethical and immoral it all is. Yet somehow, in their mind, they can make that choice to take the blatantly wrong fork. WTH?

Your use of directional left and right does not match the political left and right. Needless error. The bad guys are on the right, not the left. The left is not a bunch of cowards cowering in the shadows. When the right is evil, which it is, defiance comes from the left. Liberals are the true conservatives. They conserve and preserve and fight to save the commonwealth here and globally. Conservatives are fascists. And fascists are killers. Just look at the first 14 months of Trump 2.0.
