💙 the name of the proposition! This might very well work in Blue States, but, as we can see with the recent overturning of Section 2 of the VRA, in a case brought from LA, a State known for extreme racial fu[%ery, the goal is to suppress or eliminate enough of the vote of minority groups so as to render their voices mute, to make the votes of minority groups, including women, to be not worth the effort to cast them. Yeah, we appreciate the efforts to protect voting districts in places like Detroit & Chicago, both Blue Northern cities, but, what can be done to protect the votes of Democratic & minority citizens in Southern Red States? What is the proposed tactic for that scenario?

Kat Hudy's avatar

I truly think the same FAFO would apply there as well.

Karen Valerio's avatar

It would apply but the red states would not use it. They would allow the intimidation to keep voters away.

Cherae Stone's avatar

You might be surprised. People in red states are not all exactly pleased with the way these situations are playing out. Veterans may not allow anyone to try to intimidate the voting populace.

It must be backed up by local police presence nd the mandate to arrest ICE agents. It’s going to be a mess. Im from a safe state of CT so i will likely drive to New Hampshire to work for a candidate.

Trump says no thank you to $10 Billion from his DOJ; Just set up a ~$2 Billion slush fund for my convicted fraudsters & violent insurrectionists. Gym Jordan: America's not America if you have a Justice Dept that is political. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGORP-lgIUM

Trump & Co project corruption & fraud everywhere while promoting/pardoning hate groups, starting wars of choice & trashing economies. The Golden Age?

Resist the authoritarianism of the MAGA gangsters & grifters! VoteBlue!

Trump & his entire cabal are criminals. They all belong in prison.

This is wonderful news Miles! I went to my local primary and when I got there I have friends and neighbors working who know me, however, they go through the process to a TEE. I would hate to have that polling place surrounded by ICE Agents because they aren't supposed to interfere in elections no matter what and if they do they SHOULD be arrested for election interference! VOTE BLUE!

This is great news, I’ve been concerned about that, hopefully they’ll abide by this! Miles this is absolutely wonderful how you’ve stepped up and took control of helping the ppl from the trump criminal regime. Miles trump et.al really put you & your family through hell, but you still kept doing what you felt needed to do, YOU ARE A TRUE PATRIOT! Never forget how much we appreciate you and all the sacrifices your family & you endured to help the ppl and democracy, MILES, WE’RE FOREVER GRATEFUL !

I support the coalition of district attorneys, but I wonder if local law enforcement will actually move to arrest federal forces when charged. That interaction was cloudy several months ago when ICE went after a suspect in South Burlington, VT. It was clear the the local and state police were uncertain about their role in that encounter when ICE was acting illegally.

Kat Hudy's avatar

Every State Government needs to make it crystal clear to the police what their roles are before Election Day.

Richard A Butz's avatar

I agree, and I think our legislature is working on a bill to allow victims if Ice/Federal violence to sue in state court - which will be litigated by the feds. But I don't think we're drafting legislation to define local police powers to protect polling places. And we have a govrenor who would probably veto any such bill, oy!

Kat Hudy's avatar

I believe our State will do it! Hope I’m right!

This is, unfortunately, an essential point. I'm in VA. Big push last Nov to get Abigail Spanberger elected. She had a good reputation as a Congresswoman for follow-through, and a reputation as a centrist--a species I am fed up with Spanberger has a strong Democratic state legislature, which passed good bills re ICE and other issues. She just vetoed them! What the hell? She wants laws that have no teeth. People are getting fed up, quickly.

Will police arrest the J6er militias on the spot as people try to vote? Why can't ICE be arrested on the spot? After voting day won't matter; the damage will have been done. Not sure if local police are for or against democracy in red states.

Charlie's avatar

Yes, my big concern is that these moves are REACTIVE. The bad guys intimidate and/or disrupt voting on ED, and then the local DAs etc swing into action? In the meantime, you've lost the voters and their votes.

One Simple Remedy:

VOTE EARLY. Only a handful of states don't offer early in person voting, or make it permission based. AL, ID, NH, PA. Check out Vote.org. Just don't be there when the GOP goons show up!

Trump will not put ICE at the polls, but he will continue to say he will to try and scare voters away.

Charlie's avatar

This is my bet. There simply are not enough agents (22,000) and I have yet to figure out how many polling places in blue areas. A project for a quiet day, and we haven't had one of those in a while.

Way to kick ICE, Miles and fellow Defiance members!! My friend and I are in the process of signing up to be poll observers for the November election! 🕊️

Nancy Reike's avatar

And if he does send them to the polls you damn well better put them in jail. They don't belong at the polls- or any place else on our streets for that matter!

Thank you so much Miles.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!

Peter Mancuso's avatar

Putting Trump and company on notice is the first step and enforcing the law is the second.

Thanks Miles and all those working with Defiance.org. For the voters , don't let a few goons hamper your vote Illegal immigrants are not allowed to vote so there is no reason for the ICE gestapo agents to be marauding around the polls. Vote in groups , take five folks with you to vote, Don't sit this one out. Eighty nine million sat the last election out , seventy seven million folks voted for this nightmare. Again don't sit this one out. Your personal freedoms , health and your , lets not take it for granted democracy is hanging on by a thread. If you want this nightmare and Crime Syndicate out of your life, Vote blue all the way

Charlie's avatar

Especially: If you cannot vote early/ before Election Day* then get people to come with you. People who don't drive, people who are easily scared, people who often don't bother. Start finding them now!

All but a very few states allow early voting, which IMHO is the best way to avoid the goons.

Vote.org has info.

Isn't it against the Constitution to have officers at a polling place? I'm happy that some of these DA's have more of a backbone than any of the republicans in Congress.
