This is so powerful that I decided to upgrade to Founding member. I have experienced precisely what you experienced when I was a university administrator. I learned firsthand how cowardly or ambitious people around me were and how some of my closest "friends" distanced themselves. But, I also saw many who stood up for me and I had total strangers coming up to me in bookstores and grocery stores to praise me. I cannot imagine living life afraid to speak up.
I bought your book Anonymous as soon as it came out. My admiration for your courage and persistence is enormous. You are setting such a good example for your child and for others. I recommend a poem "How Did you Die?" by Edmund Vance Cook. It has a gloomy title and I would retitle it "How Did you Live?'
Great analysis. We can't just ignore the corruption and the effort by the minority to rule. Trump and Musk did a job on us to get this mafia corruption in control - and the Robert's Court with the 2010 Citizens United set it up; and do not overlook the money from Barre Seid and the efforts of the NRA, Leonard Leo and the unethical lawyers of the Federalist Society. Sadly many voters are very busy with making ends meet and keeping the kids and house and they don't have time to look for the truth. We rely on Defiance and others to pick up the slack. YOU GO!!!!
I also do not understand why people are afraid of a man with dementia. Shit. He will have no recollection of any of this by the end of the year. They know and choose to allow the destruction of this country for their own personal gains. Even his own family hates him to the point of letting him rot in public in front of the entire world.
Michelle: well said!! I actually don’t think that trump’ll have any recollection of this by tomorrow morning. By the end of the year…? well, hm. He’s 80; he’s eaten and still eats so many Big Macs with fries that he’s singlehandedly cleared out entire herds in Texas and potato crops in Idaho (and God knows about salt mine depletion); his possibly syphilitic and definitely demented brain is like Swiss cheese; and the only time he sleeps is during important events and public appearances - he rants and “YELLS” into truthsocial all night.
Not the healthiest lifestyle. I’m not sure he’ll be *around* by the end of the year. 🤷♀️
I was fortunate enough to play for some very good hockey coaches—one of if not the best coached this, that courage is contagious. Conventional hockey wisdom focused on big hits, fights—he didn’t diminish those aspects, but coached that the willingness to take a hit to make a play, to make sure the pass was on the money even though you knew you about to get walloped, was far and away the most important. RIP Pops
If you live in a blue state, visit your attorney general and get permission to record your calls. Some states permit recording without informing the other party. You probably will get more calls like that one. That call is actionable and certainly of use if you end up going to a jury, which I doubt.
Beautifully written, Miles. I love everything you share but most of all your experience as a victim. Those stories go way beyond political gains. It speaks to the evil and the shame of all those people including friends. Under no circumstances would I ever betray a friend to pro.ote myself.
