You got it all in the conclusion. "Our POTUS is unstable and there are no sensible people". He is a criminal that has surrounded himself with other criminals. Bondi will chase anyone, Patel will try to change history, Hegseth loves playing war with Trump, Vought is ready to spend money on anything, Miller keeps lying about the economics of detention, the Federalist Society of unethical lawyers look the other way as the judicial system is destroyed. All this is about money and Epstein; the corrupt Congress and government hides Epstein and their investments in Palantir, Corecivic, Geogroup and the military. McConnell noted that Trump was a criminal - he owes us an effort to correct it. And Grassley has done nothing but protect the corrupt SCOTUS and ignore all his responsibilities as Senate Judicial Committee leader. And now ICE torments Vermont.

Mary Trump has said that if her uncle thinks he's going down, he'll try to take everyone else with him. I believe her. I think we're in the most danger since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

No since South Carolina seceded from the Union.

Wow Miles, as always, sounding the alarm, screaming from the top of your lungs. Another well thought out piece. Thank you for always sticking your neck out. Putting into eloquent and urgent terms what we all need to keep front of mind.

Miles,

I've got no answer for this. I was not there, I don't know the details like you do. Based on what you say here, it is against all odds that we're still alive. Or at least that a nuclear war has not started.

So where does this leave us? We're normies with jobs or not, kids or not, mortgages or not. We send you and other efforts money. We may march and write our congressperson. None of that is remotely adequate to combat what you're talking about, it's not even in the same reality.

I appreciate your efforts and I show it by sending some shekels for it, but what are you saying here? A massive armed rebellion? I don't know how to do that. Might I be swept into one? Yeah, maybe, but that's not on the table at the moment.

The only thing I can think to do is try and contribute to the infrastructure of efforts that resist this cruelty and insanity. I'm taking training to be a legal observer and in street first aid. It's so tiny as to be insignificant. But it's all I've got, really.

And your Fail Safe porn here doesn't help. All it could do is fill people with despair and drive them to give up.

I wonder, since all of a sudden, the bunker under the East Wing, is being enlarged and upgraded- does he plan on using nukes and expecting retaliation in kind on our homeland- and the rest of us, w no ‘bunker’ are defenseless -

Miles, anyone with a modicum of intelligence and concern can see that Trump is on the edge of reality in his best mental states, which are getting fewer and fewer. If we all don’t collectively realize this, we will pay for our lack of awareness with many lives lost - all of us, and all of “them”!!!!

pmpmpm's avatar

No. He is enjoying this and knows what he is doing. Research Narcissistic Sociopath. He is laughing at all of us for being so stupid to re-elect him....

Both of you are correct.

I FUCKING HATE that word, “Homeland”. Very Hitler.

It was a W Bush invention. Never likes it either.

Leave us not forget he wanted to nuke a hurricane.

As a news junkie, I thought I knew the risks in Trump’s 1st term. I did not.

I didn’t either.

The descriptions you gave of Mattis and Kelly intervening to prevent Trump's reckless and irrational behavior showed they were men of integrity and fully recognized the threat he was, would be, and is. So why didn't Mattis and Kelly go on a speaking tour fully telling America how dangerous it would be to elect this unstable lunatic again? These men are battle tested military personnel at the top of their profession. Campaigning against Trump would have been more protection than they ever provided to Americans in combat. Why weren't they aggressively fighting to save America at this critical moment when all of this could have been prevented? Why? Why?

Michael Sponsler's avatar

P.S. I should have added, why didn't they warn America LIKE YOU DID ...loudly, strongly, and constantly??!! You have paid a huge personal and professional cost. Why didn't military leaders have the same courage as you? Isn't that what they were trained to do? Defend America with their lives? Surely risking their pensions pales in comparison..

Joan Wiersma's avatar

As a person that's addicted to reading, I saw them warning us quite often.

Michael Sponsler's avatar

I didn't see nearly enough.

Gen Kelly gave a NYT interview in October of 24 but his language was not loud and clear. And he would not endorse Kamala. If you had the opportunity to prevent a fascist, authoritarian who does not follow the Constitution and constantly to use military, don't you think he could have swallowed his pride and endorsed her.

And as far as I know, he didn't give a single televised interview about the danger of Trump.

"2024 Silence on the Campaign Trail

While other former staffers spoke out, a 2024 report noted that Mattis largely stayed silent during the final, active stages of the 2024 campaign, choosing not to do extensive interviews, even while affirming his earlier, severe criticisms to colleagues, according to Bob Woodward."

I kept waiting for them to step up very publicly and often the summer of 2024. Their warnings were few and not televised. Their voices were far too weak, diffuse, nuanced and inadequate. They hid while Miles led the charge. They failed us in our time of need.

That's what I've thought for a while that the demented moron in the WH has nuclear weapons.

Lou, aka/Louise J Passick's avatar

Just posted on fb and BlueSky.

I was in Hawaii during that false alarm, but we were convinced that it was certainly possible we were entering a nuclear war. People seem to forget just how unhinged Trump was during his first term-and that was when he had reasonable people around him.

"HE" has NO GUARDRAILS like he did the first time around. The man thinks everything is video game. It's scary as crap that he has no one to stand up to him when he's wrong. Why? Because he is suffering from senility and God KNOWS what goes on in his head. He has a totally different perception of what is going on than what is going on.

Joan Wiersma's avatar

I agree 100% !!!!
