Trump’s “Patriot” America Has a Problem ft. Skye Perryman

DEFIANCE Daily: Dispatches for the Defiant

Trump’s Patriot Games were supposed to be simple: one boy and one girl from every state and territory competing for $250,000 in scholarships.

On paper? Harmless. Wholesome, even.

Then reporters got to Ohio.

MAGA hats everywhere. Some creative interpretations of state residency. Athletes who seemed about as clear on the rules as the rest of us.

Let’s just say the “Patriot” part was doing a lot more work than the “Games.”

Then there’s ICE.

The administration is finally putting body cameras on agents. Great. Except now we get to the part about who sees the footage, and when. At the same time, DHS’s longtime top statistician just quit after key immigration data stopped being published, while the administration keeps arresting and deporting people without giving the public the proper numbers to track it.

But we do have some good news.

After Todd Blanche signed a piece of paper supposedly killing Trump’s $1.776 billion slush fund, Democracy Forward took one look a at it and decided to expand its lawsuit.

Its president and CEO, Skye Perryman, joins us to explain why, and to talk about her new book, Ordinary People, Extraordinary Times: How to Reclaim Your Power, Fight for Freedom, and Reimagine Democracy.

Honestly? This book was born for the Defy-Ants.

And for our favorite segment, “Who’s Joining the DEFIANCE,” the Trump administration tried threatening one local official into doing ICE’s bidding. Lucky for us, they picked the wrong guy.
