Republicans are banking on Donald Trump’s first-ever midterm convention to give them some momentum before November.
It might help if people wanted to go.
The two-night Dallas event is already being described by one Republican strategist as a “shit show,” with lawmakers being asked to cough up as much as $100,000 for the privilege of attending. And whoever picked the dates might want to check the NFL schedule.
The anxiety is making its way inside the White House, too. Senior officials are heading for the exits while lawyers prepare Trump’s remaining staff for what a Democratic House could mean for them.
But Trump still has something Republicans need heading into November: a $400 million war chest that he has finally started spending.
End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller (@endcitizensunited) joins us to talk about what all that money buys Trump, and why some candidates are suddenly learning that voters care a whole lot about who funds them.
And we end today by honoring a woman who spent 80 years refusing to become what other people expected of her.
Dolly Parton, we will always love you in the DEFIANCE.
