I traveled to Ireland last March and was scared coming back into my own country! That was a first for me. Never ever could I have imagined this would happen here. I hope we will still have elections because I can't wait to vote!

The UK understands Trump in myriad ways but it’s clear the Starmer and King Charles will not speak frankly to him. They will flatter and praise him to the high heavens, as we see in this unprecedented second State visit they have accorded him. This is undoubtedly one reason the UK has merely been subjected to just a 10 percent tariff unlike the EU nations, India, China, and others.

No. They won’t do anything to upset him.

What would be the purpose of upsetting him? It's so easy to do, and it just creates more chaos. The US still has enormous economic importance. Speaking 'frankly' to him would be cutting their nose to spite their faces.

I trust you aren't 'waiting'-- not when there are Democratic legislators to be told to fight harder and protests to be joined-- like No Kings Day 2 on October 18th! If we don't fight now like our democracy depends on it, we won't have meaningful elections in another 13 months.

This is all so distressing. All I can say is that we have to keep resisting. We can’t let Trump win. We can’t let our Democracy fall. There are cracks in his hold. Epstein is still out there and gaining steam. We need to keep pushing, because I won’t live in an authoritarian country. I love America and I won’t desert her unless given no other possible choice.

My husband and I were out on the streets in central London today for the ‘Trump Not Welcome’ March. There is so little we can do! I’m a U.S. voter long-time U.K. resident. I’m devastated 😩😤 In case the main news media are too cowardly to show it - there were MANY people on the streets! All good natured and peaceful.

The answer is no, England will not tell him. Have you seen the pomp and circumstance they are throwing at him just to appease him? It is sickening.

We live in a town where tourism is our main industry. We’re retired. My husband is unable to work due to health issues. To supplement our social security I clean a couple short term rentals and do some ride sharing. Comparing this year to previous years, tourism is way down. No doubt it’s partly due to safety concerns. At 72 and 74 my husband and I truly hope to live to see trump and his ilk face the consequences they deserve. They are doing their best to ruin our country! 😢

I don't want to believe this; however, sadly, I do believe it. I know that the majority of Americans are reasonable, so how can we fix this problem in a reasonable manner? I don't want to have a violent episode, but I know that the other side is pressing for violence. Darkness is surrounding us, and I am striving to grow the light. We must not give in to the darkness.

Miles.....can you have a list at the end of your posts of the groups we can donate to for the support of people like yourself facing charges? Thanks.

Thanks for these reflective and sobering snippets, Miles. I've long wondered about how far the prying into our lives will go. You and others who are standing up to the bullshit and speaking truth to power inspire me to do what I can to do the same. I hope that the day will come when visitors and citizens alike feel safe(r) here, once again. Until then, we need to keep building the Power of the People!

I am a citizen. My ancestors came over on the Mayflower. And yet, even I do not feel safe. Does any rational person? I worry about being detained on my way in and out of the country, and am wondering if it is time to scrub my social media account and only travel with a burner phone. I cannot believe I am writing these words! If you or others can offer guidance on this, I would be so grateful!

I tend to save amusing memes, whether or not I repost it now seems they’re a ticking bomb should I travel. But it’s all in the cloud anyway, and especially at risk now that Tim Cook has destroyed any claim of Apple’s fierce defense of our privacy. I have to wonder what Jobs would be saying. In a way, to me anyway the development and rise of the smartphone is analogous to the Manhattan Project. If I mention this most people think I’m nuts, maybe true, but while The Bomb can wipe out the world in 20 minutes, in 20 years the damage to civilization wrought by “connectivity “ has been far more insidious. And arguably just as destructive. I’m reminded of the scene in “Repo Man” when the insane scientist talks about the horror of the neutron bomb:

“You ever hear of the neutron bomb? Destroys people - leaves buildings standing. Fits in a suitcase. It's so small, no one knows it's there until - BLAMMO. Eyes melt, skin explodes, everybody dead. So immoral, working on the thing can drive you mad. That's what happened to this friend of mine. So he had a lobotomy. Now he's well again.”
