Last Minute Reminder - The Free America Walkout is Happening Today

We covered The Free America Walkout last week. As a reminder, it is happening today at 2pm, local time.

The effort is being led by the Women’s March and supported by a coalition of pro-Democracy groups, including 50501, Sunrise Movement, People’s Action, Color of Change + more.

How to Participate

• Walk out of work, school, or daily activities at 2:00 p.m. local time on January 20

• If you cannot physically walk out, pause work or spending at that time

• Join a local action organized by Women’s March / FREE America partners (local actions can be found here)

• Wear Red, White, and Blue

• Avoid non-essential spending for the day

• Share participation online to increase visibility and turnout

• Support local mutual aid, strike funds, or protest organizers if able

Goal of the Walkout

“The walkout is a collective escalation—and a test.

Those in power have escalated attacks on our rights, our bodies, and our livelihoods. We’re escalating in response. Walking out lets us stress-test our readiness for real, collective action—not just symbolic protest.

It tests whether we can move together, organize across workplaces and communities, and build the muscle for non-compliance and action-based resistance. Just as importantly, it brings us together to start building a Free America—an feminist America that is economically just, racially equitable, and safe for immigrants—alongside our coworkers, classmates, family, and friends.
