I've been waiting for this. I keep having visions of Trump's masked storm troopers dragging a journalist off camera during a live broadcast. This is where it's going. What's amazing is how quickly it's happening and STILL Republicans quiver in their closets.
Obviously, the intent to tighten control on the press has to be a violation of the 1st amendment, as well as protecting their sources, but perhaps you could more clearly articulate the present safeguards or perhaps even point to how we, as citizens can support that effort.
All media outlets should be standing together against this orange tyrant not settling with him and paying $$$$. I hope those he goes after do not release their sources. When will this nightmare end??!!!
What Trump is doing is called Extortion. It’s illegal, yet he keeps doing it without a single thought. What is even worse, is he’s doing it mainly against American Companies, Law Firms, Universities, and citizens. Everything he says and does is against the Constitution and the Rule of Law. He is a Lawless President and this isn’t going to end well unless we stop him and his corrupt administration.
Today, reporters. Tomorrow, the opposition. We are all going to have to embrace secure communications. As a former telecom company regulatory manager, I can tell you that they hand over, without question, anything law enforcement asks for, as long as they have a subpeona, and I'm sure tech companies are no different.
I noticed last year that reporters at The Washington Post and The New York Times were posting encrypted apps as their points of contact. Now we see why. Hopefully they are secure, but what about their computers and work product? It will be interesting to see how much their publishers step up to protect reporters who in earlier times have gone to jail to protect their sources.
I feel like Rip Van Winkle, waking up from a 55 year nap. Wasn't there a fellow known as "Tricky," who had a team of "plumbers" doing the same thing near the Potomac River? That only ended because Woodward, Bernstein, and Deep Throat persevered and there USED TO BE some Republicans who respected the constitution and rejected illegal/criminal behavior by the Paranoid President. Yorba Linda? Mar-a-Lago? Hmmm.
