Have a group of us that have banded together calling, writing and emailing our DC representatives on a daily basis. We call our group the “spunky & grey blue-haired” gang when we are out in protest as well as getting together by whatever means possible to continue fighting against this entire regime. We started out small but have grown into a good size group. Talking with one in our group, she’s a grandmother of an individual in the National Guard that has been dispatched to DC. Her grandson learned they will be there until the end of February since the shooting in DC of the two Guardsmen.
So many in the Guard don’t want to be dispatched in this way. As many have said in their unit this really isn’t what they envisioned they would be called to do. The feeling is they aren’t helping but being used and feel pulled in directions to fulfill orders at the same time seeing these orders as utterly meaningless. Their unit wasn’t expected to be there until February but now they are all having to make difficult adjustments at home. A lot of sacrifices that a large number are not pleased that they are placed in this situation. Many were expecting to be back well before the Christmas holiday and now they will not be. As our grandmother in the group conveyed many of these individuals now in DC who are mother’s and father’s will begrudgingly do their duty and the moral let’s just say is not cheerful. They all have heard how this regime talks about the “leeches” the “vermin” and many were not aware that this was the norm of their language prior. They keep their heads down and try to keep their spirits up, which so many of us are doing daily under these circumstances.
The grandfather of the young man gave him some words to ponder from his own life experience and share if he wanted. His grandfather told him that he never wanted to be drafted to Vietnam but went because that was his duty to this nation. He came back and wasn’t welcomed with open arms due to the circumstances at the time. But he just moved on in life like most do. As our grandmother in the group conveyed many of these individuals now in DC who are mother’s and father’s will begrudgingly do their duty and the moral let’s just say is not cheerful. They all have heard how this regime talks about the “leeches” the “vermin” and many were not aware that this was the norm of their language prior. They keep their heads down and try to keep their spirits up, which so many of us are doing daily under these circumstances.
The grandfather of the young man gave him some words to ponder from his own life experience and share if he wanted. His grandfather told him that he never wanted to be drafted to Vietnam but went because that was his duty to this nation. He came back and wasn’t welcomed with open arms due to the circumstances at the time. But he just moved on in life like most do. In time the country realized more about the hidden truths of that war, and sentiment changed. But this time for his grandson is different, the majority if not all in this nation know what this regime is, and doing, even using those Guardsman as pawns. A huge difference. So much can change and be the people we all know you are, keep your humility, empathy and humanity and never obey an illegal order. We will be waiting to see you in February or we may come to DC and take a few of you all out for some holiday cheer. The grandparents are bound for DC sometime in December or the early part of January.
